FAQ Service Department

A1: Why is my check engine light on?
Q1: Did you just fill up your gasoline tank. Most likely you have not turned the gas cap enough times to seal the gas tank. If that does not fix the problem, come on by and we will hook up your sick Audi to the super computer and find out what is wrong. Currently there are 1,648 faults(error codes) that will trigger the check engine light.
A2: I got my recall notice, why don't you have my part?
Q2: Audi of America divides its recalls up in waves. These "waves" are set number of paired parts to customers. every part is issued by customer name and vin number. Audi tries very hard to make sure that your part goes to where you service your Audi last. Audi hopes that you make an appointment to have the recall work done as soon as possible. When the service appointment is not made, Carlsen holds that part in hopes that you just drop in to have the work done without an appointment. After so many days that part is then released to any recall customer. Audi will send the recall part as soon as it can.
A3: MY IPHONE/ANDROID/BLACKBERRY stopped working with my Audi!!!!!
Q3: There is NO issue that causes Carlsen and Audi more of a headache than updates for all the smart phone devices. We understand that you are extremely irritated that your Audi no longer supports the new software version that your device is running. Unfortunately, other than telling you to run the previous software version, there is nothing that we can do until Audi gets an update for its software system to make the new version of software operate.
Q4: You said you fixed my Audi and it has the same problem. Why did you not fix it right the first time?
A4: Most of the time, these issues are software or device communication issues. It is rare that a hardware (part or driving condition) cannot be resolved the first time. When your Audi has a software or device communication issue, we install a software update and test the devices that are having the communication issue. Sometimes these devices will work correctly when tested individually, but when working together they just don't like each other. In that case we have to guess which device is causing the problem. Most of the time we guess correctly. We then perform a full systems test and will not return your Audi until the system indicated that there are no problems with your Audi.
In other cases, we know there is a problem, but the root cause may be one of six or seven parts or conditions that are causing the problem. Because money is money, we always start with the cheapest solution. In the case of rotors, these means sanding them, this is much cheaper than replacing one for $850. It can be a long process until the final issue is resolved.
